Description
The wine presents a profound deep purple hue and a bouquet of rich berry jam and black cherry, underscored by notes of prune and baking spices. A subtle herbal quality adds complexity, and a buttery undertone rounds out the aromatics. On the palate, this Cabernet Sauvignon reveals a juicy, earthy character with a distinctive tart red fruit profile, reminiscent of underripe cherry, and intriguing layers of leather and dark chocolate. The finish is both soft and slightly grippy, providing a velvety texture. The wine’s structure suggests it will age gracefully over time.

GEHRICKE
Located on the slopes of the Sonoma Valley, this small vineyard benefits from early morning fog with a late burnoff, providing the temperatures required to fully ripen zinfandel. Sandy clay loam soils maintain vine nutrient balance. The 2015 growing season started with rain in February, soothing worries about the fourth year of California’s drought affecting the vegetative cycle of the vines. Moderate summer temperatures with only a few heat spikes in September allowed for a relaxed, excellent development of flavors and retention of natural acidity. After harvest, the zinfandel was hand-picked, destemmed, then fermented and aged in a combination of American, French and Hungarian Oak barrels for 18 months.
