The blend is 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc, 6% Malbec and 2% Petit Verdot. Though it’s a blend of thick-skinned, heavier varieties here, the wine drinks very light. Hanzell sits at 340m in elevation, but the wines from this vineyard range in elevation from 150m to 350m, and that variance of elevation is apparent in the wine, with both forward-facing concentrations of stewed black and blue fruits as well as more subdued ﬂavours and aromas of damp earth and petrichor.

Description

Complex and lovely on the nose, aromatic notes of blackberry, blueberry, cassis, anise, baking spices, worn leather and forest floor emanate. The palate reflects the complexity of the nose and brings forth raspberry, boysenberry, juicy dark plum and woodsy herbs. Eminently drinkable in its’ youth, the beautifully integrated yet structured tannins and balanced acidity offer plenty of structure to make this a wine worthy of aging for years to come.
