Description

The majority of grapes for this Chardonnay came from two of our Sonoma Coast Vineyards, Catapult Ranch and Tolay Vista. These vineyards are located to the East of Petaluma and are in a region called “The Petaluma Gap”. This growing region is defined by the corridor of cool air that comes from the Pacific Ocean and flows toward the east through the gap in the Sonoma mountain range. It slows grape ripening and cools the area which is ideal for Chardonnay and maintaining acidity. 2023 was an extremely cold year, late bud break, a very mild summer and then multiple rain events during the Fall ripening season. The weather this vintage made it a tricky one to navigate, but, in the end it was very rewarding. The long hang time allowed for impressive flavor development and complexity whilst the lack of sunshine meant higher acids, fresher flavors and brilliant wines at lower alcohol levels. A stunning vintage.

CLINE FAMILY CELLARS

Handpicked before dawn, each parcel is brought to the winery separately where they are then destemmed and lightly crushed before pressing. This extracts more solids and builds a richer wine. From there, we rack after 24 hours to retain solids and begin fermentation. Half is inoculated and fermented in stainless, the other half is left to begin fermentation on its own in barrels. The wine goes through 100% malolactic fermentation and is aged for 10 months on 35% new French oak before blending and bottling.
