Description
Showcasing a captivating deep yellow hue, this single-vineyard chardonnay features fragrant, floral aromas of sweet fresh flowers mixed with notes of tropical fruits and crème brûlée. On the palate, warm flavors of banana cream pie and buttered popcorn are complemented by warm hints of toasted oak and a touch of vanilla. A creamy mouthfeel accompanied by a vibrant acidity is perfectly balanced, leading to a long finish.

GEHRICKE
Located on the easter edge of the Russian River Valley crossing over into Chalk Hill, the Chalk Ridge Vineyard showcases Clone 4 chardonnay vines that were planted in 1989. The soil is a combination of silt and loam, the optimal balance for excellent drainage. The 2016 growing season in Sonoma County started with a wet December and January, which helped to ease the drought. The entire ripening season enjoyed cooler than average daytime highs and cold nights–perfect conditions for complex wines. The fruit was hand-picked and transported back to the winery to be whole cluster pressed and transferred into barrel for a secondary 100% malolactic fermentation to add creaminess. Finally, the wine was barrel aged sur lees in 50% new French oak for 18 months.
