We first launched Highland Park 12 in the 1970s, as the first whisky in our core range. It’s since become a fixture in the local pubs in Orkney—where it’s now as much a part of daily life as fishing, farming and doing your best to stay upright in our bracing winds.
To create the well-rounded character of the 12 year old, we harmonise whiskies matured in hand-selected, first-fill, sherry-seasoned European and American oak casks, which together deliver its main flavour profile of spicy-sweetness and mellow warmth. Additional refill casks round out the powerful notes from the first-fill casks, resulting in a classic, versatile whisky that’s always finely balanced.
As invigorating as the Orkney breeze. Fresh, clean and floral on the nose, with heathered honey and a touch of citrus. Sweet and spicy on the palate, with toasty notes of burnt orange, jasmine and fruitcake. A long finish with peppery spice, woody notes and orange zest, and the subtle, aromatic kick of smoke that you only get from Orkney heathered peat.
