Description

Our origins date back to the era of the Mexican Revolution, when our founder Carlos Moreno’s family began delving into the world of mezcal. Today, we continue to grow and are proud to collaborate with more than 52 producing families from 18 communities in the state of Oaxaca, thus having an international presence in more than 16 countries.

WE ARE THE GUARDIAN THAT PRESERVE AND GATHER

One of the most frequently asked questions our founder, Carlos L. Moreno, is: Why Koch?

The word Koch comes from the scientific name of the pulquero agave, Ferox Koch, the first agave plant used to extract the base of a beverage in pre-Hispanic Mexico.

Koch is the first variety of agavaceae, which we call “mansor or pulquero,” that we use for the production of the Mexican fermented beverage known as pulque, a sacred drink in the Aztec culture, produced before our encounter with Europe.

The birth certificate of this beverage also represents the origin of human consumption from the agave plant. This is where the name Koch El Mezcal and its meaning come into play. KOCH is a name that reflects a story, an origin, an identity.
