The beginning of the 2019 growing season was defined by copious rainfall and late soil moisture. The long, warm summer saw very few extreme heat events, with foggy mornings setting the stage for vibrant and expressive wines. The long, relatively mild finish to the season, not without its moments of unpredictability, helped to preserve freshness and finesse in the fruit with abundant hang time teasing out great color, structure and soft tannins. Volume is looking to be about average to a little less than average. All in all, exceptional fruit with bright acidity and ample texture promises an amazing vintage.

The Somnium Estate vineyard’s protected, southwest-facing orientation allows for optimal sun exposure, ensuring that our six planted acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot can achieve full ripeness without losing their freshness from too much late-afternoon sun. The site’s rocky, volcanic soils and steep grades of 15 to 30 percent offer superb natural drainage and contribute to our wines’ robust structure. This unique combination of factors gives our wines their exceptional texture, density, and freshness – the building blocks of age-worthy Cabernet.

Somnium

Opening with complex aromas of blackberry, blue plum, violet, and a hint of fresh herbs, this Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is vibrant and expressive. On the palate, notes of cherry, dark chocolate, cassis, and toasted almonds are intertwined with fresh acidity, supple tannins, and a long, smooth finish.
