Deliciously fruity and deep, the 2024 release of Highland Park 21 is crafted from just 48 casks—25 first-fill, sherry-seasoned American oak quarter casks, 15 refill butts and 8 first-fill, sherry-seasoned European hogsheads—all hand-selected and laid down in 2001 and 2002. By combining three different cask types, our Master Whisky Maker Gordon Motion has created a superb single malt Scotch whisky with a natural deep copper colour direct from the cask that’s both satisfyingly rich and intriguingly complex.
Matured in only 48 casks laid down between 2001 and 2002, including lightly sweet first-fill, sherry-seasoned American oak quarter casks, for intense vanilla and citrus fruit flavours, with European Oak hogsheads delivering warm spice and dried fruit. We selected a few refill casks to add floral sweetness to balance the influence of oak from the first-fill casks.
Only 22,000 people live in Orkney. We’re a small community of warm and often eccentric Orcadians who call this wind-swept place home. Our 21-year-old is a reflection of this characterful diversity. Made from 36 casks, it’s the definition of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts.
